Kaufland, the magical “buy-land” across Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Moldova, has never stopped alluring price-conscious shoppers for bargain hunting with its extensive selection of fairly priced, high-quality products.

More than that, rooted in its established bricks-and-mortar stores, Kaufland has quickly jumped onto the eCommerce bandwagon, following Schwarz Gruppe’s acquisition of real.de, one of the largest online marketplaces in Germany in 2020.

Predictably, the leap into the online shopping world could be a mix of opportunities and challenges.

## A centralized tracking system was all it’s lacking 
Compared to store shopping, the online arena is a completely different one. Instead of having customers come, shop and leave with bags of goods, Kaufland’s eCommerce would be facing millions of items per month ready to be packaged and shipped to clients within 8 different countries in Europe. All come with varying carrier requirements and storage conditions!

For example, fresh commodities and groceries demand faster delivery, while bulky items like furniture involve delicate packaging and safe handling. The consequence is that Kaufland would have to enlist thousands of carriers to accommodate diverse shipping needs for optimal delivery efficiency.

This would present a challenge familiar to many eCommerce platforms: “How to follow delivery events for millions of shipments?”

Back in 2020, foreseeing this upcoming dilemma, Sebastian Rötsch, Kaufland’s Head of Corporate Development, started seeking centralized shipment tracking solutions that could streamline their order tracking workflow and reduce operational costs.

In April 2021, as real.de was officially rebranded as kaufland.de, Kaufland became a formal subscriber of TrackingMore's services. Since then, the partnership has been active and remains solid.
